How to Change Fonts

Change the Fonts on New and Existing Documents



Microsoft Word / PowerPoint / Excel / and Publisher

OR

Open an existing document and select (highlight) the text you would like to

2. Click on the Home ribbon (tab)

3. To change the font style, click the arrow to the right of the current font name in the Home tab.

4. Choose your font style from the drop-down list given. 

Tip: If you know the font you want, type in the name or the first few letters of the name in the font list to move to that section of the list

Option: If you would like to change the size of the text it is the box to the right of the font list, with the number.

NOTE: Some programs do not allow the defaulting of fonts or have various instructions for defaulting the font based on the version of the program. Only programs that have consistent instructions are included below.


 Setting the Default Font in Microsoft Word:

Start with a blank document, or if your document already contains text that is formatted with the properties that you want to use, select that text.

  1. On the Home tab, click the Font Dialog Box Launcher, and then click the Font tab.

  1. Select the options that you want to apply to the default font, such as font style and font size. If you selected text in step 1, the properties of the selected text are set in the dialog box.

Set your font options then click Set As Default to make them the default

  1. Click Set As Default, and set the scope of your changes:

    • Select This document only? if you want your changes to apply to only the current document.

    • Select All documents based on Normal .dotm template? if you want your changes to apply to any document based on the Normal template.

Select what scope you want this font to be the default for.

  1. Click OK to apply your changes.

  1. Click the File tab and choose Options.

  1. Choose General from the left pane.

  2. Under the When Creating New Workbooks section, choose the appropriate font from the Use This As The Default Font dropdown.

  1. Click on OK.


 Note: This will only impact new documents. To change the font on existing documents, open the existing document and select (highlight) the text you would like to change.
