Acceptability Policy: Using JetPacks for Internet Access

The Academy uses JetPacks, from Verizon, to provide Internet access in areas where Internet access is unavailable.

To keep this tool available for Academy use please be aware of and comply with all of the following:
  1. The JetPacks are for business use. Employees are responsible for exercising good judgment regarding the reasonableness of personal use, and if there is any uncertainty, employees should consult with IT staff.
  2. Academy programs pay a monthly fee even when the JetPack is not in use.
  3. While Academy IT does not have access to monitor JetPack usage, the SDSU Foundation does have this access.
  4. JetPack settings are pre-configured before being assigned to staff members and are not to be tampered with.
  5. JetPacks are only to be used within the United States, excluding territories outside of the 50 states.
  6. Jetpacks are not to be used on planes, boats on the open ocean, or vehicles near or passing into other countries.
  7. If a JetPack is lost, stolen, or it breaks, you are responsible for reporting it to the IT Manager immediately.
  8. JetPacks are not guaranteed to work in every area. While you can go to a location such as a building and then enter a nearby location such as a room within the building some or all of the network connection can be lost.

Suggestions:

  1. Open areas provide the best connection and Internet access.
  2. The following items can interfere and limit or eliminate all network access:
Crowded network traffic from other nearby wireless devices, reinforced walls, thick metals, brick, and wood, electrical interference, devices that use radio frequency (Bluetooth, microwave ovens, refrigerators, wireless phones), and lighting.
  3. JetPacks can support 11 devices simultaneously. As more devices are added performance can be reduced.
If you have any questions or suggestions communicate them to the IT Manager.
