San Diego Trainee Laptops


Due to the training rooms frequently being in use throughout the day, we will need to change the procedure for getting trainee laptops repaired when there are problems. 


Effective immediately, if there is a problem with a training laptop, please put a note on the laptop and bring it to the IT office.At that time, we will give you a backup laptop to use while the problematic laptop is being repaired.


How do you know you are using a backup laptop?


There is a label on the top left of the laptop with the word “BACKUP”.


Is there anything staff can do prior to bringing the laptop to IT?


Yes. Most problems go away by restarting either the application having problems or restarting the laptop.


Do you need to return the backup laptop to IT each day?


No. Please keep the backup laptop while the original trainee laptop is being repaired.At the end of the day, store and charge the backup laptop in the same slot in the cart as the original laptop. When the repairs are complete and IT can get in the room IT will return the original laptop and take back the backup.


If the laptop was in the cart and plugged in but did not charge:


If a device battery drains completely the device may need additional time to charge and can seem like it is no longer working. To fix this problem do all of the following:


1.Label the laptop so you know which one it is and put it back in the cart to charge for at least an hour.


2.Make sure to plug on the laptop is pushed all the way in on the laptop.


3.Make sure the two cart plugs are plugged into the wall outlet. If they are unplugged or you can see the metal prongs on the plug push the cable in.Please do not unplug these cables.


4.Wait at least an hour. 


Also, in room 105 the red laptop cart has been moved to the back of the room for the time being while the old smartboard is still there. While the cart is in the back of the room, please do not unplug it or plug these two cords into a power strip. We understand some of you like to charge your laptops in the back however we are limited on the locations in the room this cart can be safely charged.
